NOTICE: Imposter Websites Using FINRA Member Firms and Registered Representatives’ Identities

Please be on notice that several FINRA member firms have identified that malicious actors have established imposter websites of their registered representatives. These imposter websites may appear to be legitimate because they contain accurate information about the representative such as their employment history and FINRA examination history. The malicious actors appear to be using these imposter websites to collect personal information from consumers with the likely goal of committing financial fraud. In many instances, the imposter websites provide direction to invest in fraudulent investments via bitcoin or other cryptocurrency. FINRA has recently released Regulatory Notice 20-30 addressing this activity.

Imposter websites often use the registered representative’s name as the domain name for the website (e.g., firstnamemiddlenamelastname.com).
